Confusion in the Church?
I was born into the Church but was not opportune to know God in personal terms until February 11, 1990 when I surrendered my life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. Since then I have lived my life to the best of my knowledge in consonant with the Bible standard conforming to the image and righteousness of God. On daily basis, I strive to know Him the more and to walk in according to the precepts laid down in the scriptures.
Since I gave my life to Christ and have read the scriptures, I have observed that there are much confusion in the church preaching and practices especially in this part of the world. This has so much troubled me that I continue to wonder if we all are striving for the same heaven or there are different heavens for different people. Some of these confusions I have noticed are in the following areas.
1. Covering of the head/hair. While some churches believe that women should cover their hair/head while in the church, some others believe the head should not be covered as the hair has become a covering for their head. This to me is confusion. Why diverse opinion? Is it a condition or prerequisite for making heaven? Why can’t all the preachers believe in one thing? Confusion indeed!
2. Smoking and use of Alcohol. This is another area where there is much confusion in the body of Christ. Recently, a popular Nigerian born International Pastor reacting to a question from a viewer of his programmes on should a Christian work in a cigarette factory said smoking and Alcohol is not sin after all it is not written in the Bible. Are all the laws, dos and don’ts we observe written in the Bible? Why are we preachers not saying the same thing? Is it that the devil prompts some people to say different things? May God help us!
3. Why must are some Pastors/Churches preaching that people should leave the church where they worship and come out to join them? Is there a special church that is a visa to heaven? Why condemn churches unnecessarily? What makes your Church superior? Is it because you speak in tongues and perform miracles? Note that Moses performed a miracle by hitting the rock twice with his staff as against speaking to the rock and he was rejected and denied entry into the Promised Land. That was indeed a miracle but was God happy? No wonder the scriptures says that many will come and say in your name we cast out demons and performed many miracles but He will cast them away because they are workers of iniquity. So do not bask on the euphoria of your being a miracle worker to condemn others.
4. Homosexuals and Lesbianism. This is another area that the church is confused. The Bible is what Christians believe in and take as their standard. It has the record of how marriage was instituted. Unfortunately, many in the church today preach it and draw up ethics and rules from it to suit them. The Bible speaks throughout its pages that marriage is between man and woman but in this 21st Century where learning has increased and it is expecting that knowing God will increase that the church which ought to be center of righteousness is preaching that Gay is permissible in the church and some who practice this are heading the church and preaching. This to me is confusion at the highest order! Has the church no standard at all? Why is it that the Bible which is the Magna Carta of the Church did not explicitly speak in favour of gay?
This is part one of this. Think about it and I am expecting your comments on this because on daily basis I ponder on all these and asking when will the church be one in her teaching, preaching and practices?
